Support to the Modern Egyptian Post Phase III

Background

The cooperation between Egypt Post and UNDP started in 2005. Consolidating successful outcomes articulated in previous phases of the projects (Phase I&II), this project supports Egypt Post’s sustained efforts to modernize and diversify the services provided to citizens, especially to marginalized people. The overarching objective of Phase III is to scale up recent successes and innovative approaches to enhance the delivery of public services in a transparent, equitable and inclusive manner.

The project also addresses EP’s sustainable capacity development, repositioned in light of SDGs pertaining to enhanced financial inclusion, social equity and shared economic growth as well as seeks to strengthen inclusive global partnership by facilitating South-South Cooperation projects.

Objectives

  1. Modernizing EP’s service delivery mechanisms to improve staff/customer satisfaction: To improve productivity, service delivery and customer/staff satisfaction of EP, the project will support to upgrade and equip aging buildings and facilities, including fire safety, security, ATM machines, GPS tracking system, etc. In addition, project will develop or update new service delivery models for faster and more reliable services.
  2. Improving EP’s innovative utilization of ICTs and equipment to widen and improve accessibility: To improve EP’s service efficiency with regards to mail sorting, directing and planning, the project will develop the National Postal Code System and Geographic Information System (GIS) database for accurate Geo-demographic information. Furthermore, the project will also establish E-commerce Platform on EP’s website to facilitate the marketing, logistical and financial activities for small business enterprises.
  3. Developing EP’s technical and institutional capacity to enhance sustainability of the Egypt Post: EP has around 50,000 employees and around 4,000 branches across Egypt. The project will support to build capacities of EP’s employees as well as establish Internal Audit Function to improve/ensure EP’s risk management system.

Accomplishments

  • At least 850 EP offices renovated and upgraded
  • Developed/upgraded service delivery, such as digitalizing and electric archiving of Saving Booklet accounts and developing Command and Control Center
  • Improve 70% of customer satisfaction
  • General Development for GIS established
  • National Postal Codes System developed
  • E-commerce portal established
  • At least 6,000 personnel completed capacity-building trainings (at least 50% of trainees are women)
