Background
The project is expected to develop a Strategic Urban Plan (SUP) for Alexandria City to provide the road map that will guide development in the city till year 2032, reflecting the Governorate’s vision and goals. The SUP will function as a specific instrument of management to encourage citizen participation in decision-making regarding city development.
Accomplishments
- A communication strategy was developed for the project to increase project outreach and communication with all stakeholders.
- The master plan for the medical city was finalized and is ready for implementation.
- Analysis of the present situation of the Matar Lake Area, including urban fabric, transportation, environment, economy and agriculture, was conducted. This also includes in-depth analysis of the area’s strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats.
- A detailed plan was prepared for the establishment of an Olympic City.
- A Geographical Information System (GIS) is being developed and tested.
- The master plan for the medical city was finalized and is ready for implementation.
- Three training programs on the use of GIS in planning and local urban management have been conducted.
