Background

Impact Investment project focuses on fostering the ecosystem for impact investment in Egypt. We are working on many different levels to make this happen. We are working with:

1. Entrepreneurs and established enterprises to train them on impact management to create a pool of enterprises eligible to receive impact funds through capturing their impact and leveraging that to tap into new sources of investment
2. Management consultants and business support institutions to be able to offer a new line of services – impact measurement and management – to be able to help enterprises to conduct assessments and capitalize on their impact and present impact reports to their investors
3. Investors to raise awareness on impact investment and increase investor appetite -  purpose driven enterprises
4. Donor agencies to adopt blended finance models

Accomplishments

• Capacity development of the UNDP Egypt Innovation for Development team in the area of Impact Investment and Blended Finance
• Positioned UNDP as go-to partner in the area of Impact Investment through a series of meetings to introduce the Development Finance Programme
• The design of a strategy for stakeholder engagement and programme implementation
• Identifying synergies between this programme and the SDG Impact Programme as Egypt was identified as a pilot CO.
• Improved access to finance by SDG-enabling entrepreneurs and MSMEs
• Improved access to finance by UNDP through forging new partnerships
• The completion of a stakeholder engagement matrix and strategy and theory of change to inform the direction of the programme
• Trained over 100 startups on impact measurement
• Trained 25 management consultant on impact management
• Conducted roundtable discussions with investors to understand needs and explain impact management
• Impact Investment and Blended Finance training: training 20 mid-level management participants from Development Agencies & Foundations with background in programme implementation.
