UNDP Egypt Celebrates the Digital Inclusion Week for Arab States

This year UNDP Egypt will celebrate the digital inclusion week for Arab states with a series of informative Arabic webinars that will cover different topics related to digital inclusion in the region. The webinars will have Arabic native speakers with diverse backgrounds under one topic and multi-related thematic areas.

Within the framework of the UNDP’s Digital Strategy and its objective- Improve digital partnership, engagement and advocacy on the Digital Transformation Pathways, UNDP Egypt is working to build local resources for increasing the digital awareness and improve the advocacy on digital inclusion through promoting experience-led innovation and co-creation in designing developmental solutions.

Working with The Principles for Digital Development and advocating those principles will contribute to the digital eco-system in Egypt and Arab states and will improve the digital inclusion to include more and more communities in the digital platforms.

UNDP Egypt believes in localization and customization towards achieving digital inclusion as well as enriching and availing resources and digital content to raise awareness on the cause. This series of webinars will be conducted in Arabic language for wider local and regional audience.

The webinars are:

1.   Assistive Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges

2.   Digital Inclusion in Light of COVID-19

3.   Persons With Disabilities and The Digital Gap

4.   Data, AI and IoT for Better Inclusion

Overview of the Digital Inclusion Week for Arab States:

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientic and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be organizing the annual ITU-UNESCO Regional Digital Inclusion Week for the Arab States during the period 25 to 30 October 2020 under the theme “Serving the underserved in times of crisis: No one left behind”.

2020 is a landmark year for Digital Inclusion, not only because it marks the start of the decade for action to achieve the SDGs, but it is also the year set for realizing 2030 Sustainable Development Goal Target 9.C. This target aims to “Signicantly increase access to information and communications technology and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the Internet in least developed countries by 2020”.

The 2020 ITU-UNESCO Regional Digital Inclusion Week for Arab States will build on the success of past celebrations of the Week organized annually by ITU and UNESCO since 2017. Adopting a multi-stakeholder approach, the Week will bring together Governments, other UN and intergovernmental bodies, civil society, academia, healthcare professionals, the private sector and citizens in advancing digital inclusion eorts. The Regional Digital Inclusion Week is thus an opportunity to raise awareness, strengthen collaboration amongst stakeholders and advance efforts to combat all forms of exclusion.
