The UN Country Team will support the participation of representatives of Nepal's civil society in the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, organized at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 12-23 March 2018

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.

The 62nd Session of the CSW will be organized at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York from 12-23 March 2018. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are welcome to attend the session.

This year, the Commission will address as its priority theme ‘Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls’. In addition, the Commission will review the theme from the 47th session of the CSW: “Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communication technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women”.

In accordance with its multi-year programme of work (ECOSOC resolution 2016/3) the twelve-day session will include four Ministerial Round Tables on the priority theme in two parallel meetings.  Stakeholders will organize a variety of side events to discuss themes of the Commission and other critical gender equality issues of Member States.

The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal will coordinate and facilitate the participation of Nepali Civil Society representatives to participate in the 62nd Session of the CSW. Thus, UNCT Nepal invites applications from interested candidates representing Civil Society Organization in Nepal (including those who have already requested the support from UN agencies in Nepal for the 62st session of the CSW).

To apply for support to attend the 62nd Session of the CSW in New York, applicants are expected to submit an updated resume (not exceeding 3 pages) and a short essay (maximum 500 words), in English, telling us how you plan to use the opportunity: how participation is linked to your ongoing work in promoting gender equality and empowerment of women; how you will utilize your experience in strengthening your future work: and finally the confirmation of the invitation to attend the CSW. The selection of candidates will be based on the potential to contribute towards the empowerment of rural women and girls in Nepal and in the region.

Applications must be submitted by February 8, 2018 to Krishna Prasad B.K. at krishna.bk@undp.org
