Business Fighting Corruption
Under the title of ‟‟The Role of Business in Fighting Corruption,” the Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC) organized the Sixth UN Global Compact Roundtable, in partnership with the UN Global Compact Office (GCO) and hosted by the American University in Cairo’s John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropic and Civic Engagement.
ECRC Executive Director Dr. Ashraf Gamal ElDin emphasized the importance of the topic especially at a time when Egypt is uncovering numerous corruption cases, which may negatively reflect on the image of its private sector despite its major role in the economy. UN Development Programme’s (UNDP) Country Director Mounir Tabet stated that fighting corruption is deeply rooted in the work of UNDP, which stands ready to support Egypt through both private sector and Government.
Also among the speakers was John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropic and Civic Engagement Director Dr. Barbara Ibrahim, Siemens Technology CEO Mohamed El Mahdy, and GCO Policy Officer Ms. Dawoon Chung, who delivered the keynote speech on the philosophy of the UN in fighting corruption.
