The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt works with partners to promote sustainable development, eradication of poverty, women empowerment, good governance and the rule of law. UNDP is committed to enhancing human development by supporting the Egyptian government in its efforts to reduce poverty and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Believing in the significant role of the civil society organizations, UNDP is partnering with Misr El Kheir (MEK) in their initiative “Social Pioneers Prize”, aiming at identifying the best practices of the non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in implementing the SDGs and raising awareness within the NGOs sector, with the main purpose of aligning their operations with the SDGs. In this connection, UNDP will be providing knowledge tools for mainstreaming the SDGs, and learning opportunities for the winning NGO.

Each year, the prize will focus on one or multiple SDGs for its theme. The focus of 2019 will be on Goal 4: Quality Education, UNDP will enhance the capacity of the winning NGO by availing knowledge and learning opportunities, and capacity strengthening tools.

The partnership between UNDP and MEK extends to previous collaborations in running innovation camps for young entrepreneurs in Upper Egypt. MEK is one of the prominent NGOs in the Egypt and has a wide outreach to the Egyptian governorates.
