UNDP-GEF Energy Efficiency Project wins the Emirates Energy AwardNov 6, 2017
UNDP-GEF Energy Efficiency Improvement Project implemented by Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is awarded the Special Recognition Award under the Emirates Energy Award 2017. The UNDP-GEF project has received the award on 24 October 2017 within the inauguration ceremony of the Green Climate Summit that is hosted in Dubai. The Emirates Energy Award is offered every two years by the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai under the patrnonage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The Emirates Energy Award objective is to recognise the best implemented practices in energy conservation that showcase innovative, cost effective and exemplary measures. Acknowledging these practices and innovation shall manifest a positive impact on the MENA region to steer energy awareness on a broad level across the different facets of society.
The project was awarded the prize in recognition for achievements in the energy efficiency field since it has supported the implementation of an efficient lighting pilot projects in a variety of public and private sector building to confirm the technical and financial feasibility of converting to LED. This has promoted the private sector to expand use of the LED technology and upscale converting premises to efficient lighting in chains of hotels, shops, supermarkets, gas station, administrative buildings, government buildings, such as all branches for CIB , Alex Bank, Alexandria Library, administrative buildings, depots and gas stations for Exxon Mobil, CEDARE, all branches of Metro Supermarket, Carrefour, Raya Communications and others which reduced electricity consumption by tens of millions of KWhr/year and thousands of tons of Green House Gas emissions.Contact information
