  • The Preparatory Round for Judges on Combatting Violence against Women Jan 12, 2016

    The first of a series of workshops to prepare judges for combatting Violence Against Women (VAW) commenced on Tuesday, 12th January 2016, in Cairo. This activity is within the scope of the ‘Strategic Interventions to Combat Violence against Women (VAW)’ project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the National Council for Women (NCW) to effectively lead national efforts to address and combat the phenomenon of VAW.

  • $15 million worth of new environmental projects in Egypt Sep 15, 2015

    The Ministry of Environment in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the technical support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has succeeded in obtaining a new package of grants from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) worth $11 million to implement three projects within the national environmental priorities and promote Egypt’s partnership with the international community as regards to the implementation of international environmental conventions. Additionally, the Government of Italy has provided $4 million to implement the Third Phase of the Egyptian-Italian Environmental Cooperation Programme (EIECP), which is implemented under the supervision of UNDP. These projects are planned to attract investments from the private sector.

    UNDP Director, Ignacio Artaza signed with Minister of Justice Naier Othman and Ambassador Omar Abou Eish, Director, Department of International Cooperation for Development in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 23 April, 2014 an agreement that would enhance access to justice through the introduction of the Legal Aid Offices (LAO) in Family Courts and upgrading of the Dispute Settlement mechanism.

    The United Nations and the Government of Egypt signed three Country’s Programme Action Plans (CPAPs) with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) and the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA). The CPAPs outline activities and programmes of UN support to Egypt in implementing its development agenda over the period 2013 to 2017.
