New municipal solid waste management factory in the northern zone of Minya governorate

In the framework of the mutual cooperation between the Italian Republic and the Arab Republic of Egypt and with regards to the agreement signed with the Italian Egyptian Debt for Development Swap on the 22nd of November 2010 with the scope of upgrading and improving solid waste collection and disposal in Minya Governorate, we provide here information on “Solid Waste Management in Minya Governorate – Phase II” project.  

One of the project activities was to establish a new municipal solid waste management factory in the northern zone of Minya governorate and the introduction of advanced technologies for recycling the municipal waste. The main products of this factory will be: 

  1. High quality pure compost for agricultural activities, through the biological treatment of organic waste, 
  2. Refuse derived fuel (RDF) and recyclables from the treatment of the dry fraction and, 
  3. Recyclables for sale,
  4. Rejects to be land-filled from other fractions of MSW.

Additionally, according to the project document the factory operation and management will be tendered for 10 year concession to the private sector through the governorate of Minya.  

Now the factory is in the final stages of the installation, the PMU is announcing the 1st invitation to potential operators with track records in the operation of municipal solid waste facilities to visit the factory on the Thursday 6th of April 2017 as part of the preparations preceding the tendering process that will be led by Minya governorate.
