Photo Contest “Equality for Women is Progress for All” Winners

UNDP Egypt Country Office, in collaboration with the Egyptian Photojournalists Society, announced the winners of the Photo Contest, launched on 9th of March 2014,  under the 2014 theme of the International Women’s Day “Equality for Women is Progress for All”. This year’s theme emphasized how gender equality, the empowerment of women and women’s full enjoyment of human rights are essential to political, economic and social development. It also stresses the vital role of women as agents of development.

The photo contest aimed to highlight and recognize the engagement and achievements of Egyptian women in the economic, social and political spheres.

The contest invited entries from all photographers. 145 photos were submitted by 29 contestants for two categories; single photos and photo essays. The jury carefully reviewed all submissions on grounds relevance to the theme of the contest, criteria set for the contest as well as technical photographic quality. The jury members included two professional photographers and three UNDP Senior Staff members.

The winners for the “single photos” category are as follows:
1st prize: Nameer Galal
2nd prize: Tarek Wajeh
3rd prize: Nameer Galal
Honorable Mention: Michael Asaad, Heba Khamis, Roger Anis, Sara Anwar, Ahmed Samir, Mahmoud Khaled

The winners for the “photo essays” category are as follows:
1st prize: Mostafa Darwish
2nd prize: Hussein Tallal
3rd prize: Hadeer Mahmoud
